Kaitlyn Wins…the opportunity to be slut-shamed by a large group of men for the next 10 weeks (The Bachelorette Premiere Part 2 Recap)

Last night confirmed what essentially everyone already knew, Kaitlyn is officially the newest Bachelorette.  After leaving us with a cliffhanger on Monday night Chris Harrison got right down to delivering the news to the women, and by right to I mean he drew it out for as long as possible, and threw in some Ryan Seacrest-y teasing, for Kaitlyn before letting her know Britt was sent home.  Sidenote:  They basically have to have two bachelors next season, right?  I mean that’s the only way this doesn’t look completely misogynistic and wrong.  I am anxiously awaiting the reveal during the After the FInal Rose special this season.  But anyways, let’s keep this ball rolling because  we’ve still got to break the news to the guys, and much to Kaitlyn’s surprise, there’s still a rose ceremony to contend with.

With Kaitlyn being announced as the bachelorette, the pressure moves on to the guys to impress her.  This task proves to be particularly daunting for the #TeamBritt guys who are now faced with the fact that their choice is no longer in the house.  But just because their dream wife just left in a limo doesn’t mean these guys shouldn’t stick around to get their 15 minutes of fame.  The only guys, who admitted to Kaitlyn they were hoping for Britt were Jared, who then proceeded to make his case for staying, and Brady who decided half way through the rose ceremony that he needed to bow out and go chase Britt down at her hotel.  Tony is especially upset, as he puts it there is “only one drinking fountain” that all the guys are now lined up at, and he might need to just go back home and “dig his own well.”  (It’s becoming more and more clear all the time why Tony is still on the market).

As the night moves along some of the guys start getting bolder in the attempts to woo Kaitlyn.  Chris (the dentist) is the winner of first make out of the season, which leads many guys to speculate that he will be getting the first impression rose.  However, it’s been clear since the limo introductions who made the biggest impression on both Kaitlyn and Britt, and in one of the least surprising moments of the night, Shawn B. gets the rose (and the second make out of the season).  Following Kaitlyn’s interview where she says she felt butterflies after kissing Shawn, (it’s unclear what she felt after kissing Chris, but he did get the first rose at the ceremony, so probably pretty good) it’s time for the first rose ceremony of the season.

At the rose ceremony many of the guys who voted for Kaitlyn are feeling that #TeamBritt guys should be sent packing along with her.  But, since it appears that Kaitlyn has about 50 roses to hand out, (seriously that pile looked huge) some Britt guys are clearly going to be sticking around.  Most of the guys who voted for Britt, including Jonathan who was actively campaigning during several earlier shots, have now decided to keep quiet and put on their best ‘please pick me” faces.  As I mentioned previously, the only people who were honest with Kaitlyn were Jared, who asked to stay anyways, and Brady, who leaves midway through the rose ceremony.  The guys are not impressed when Brady asks to go speak to Kaitlyn, as most of them believe it’s another attempt by a former #TeamBritt member to get a rose from Kaitlyn.  It becomes more understandable that the guys patience is running thin when we see a shot of the sun coming up while Chris Harrison leads Brady away.  At the conclusion of the rose ceremony it’s clear Kaitlyn has good taste, as she sent away both Shawn E. (the amateur sex coach) and Josh (the stripper).  Also getting the boot on the first night were David and Bradley, who were barely seen in the episode prior to their departures.

The episode closes out with the “this season on” preview, and it doesn’t disappoint.  There was a lot more Jared than I was expecting, I guess honesty really is the best policy when trying to fake date someone on a reality show.  The big surprise of the preview was the return of Nick Viall, the villain of Andi’s season who slut shamed her on the After the Final Rose special by questioning her about “making love” with him if she knew she wasn’t going to pick him.  And it looks like Nick will be at the center of the slut-shaming scandal again this season, as Reality Steve confirmed it is apparently Nick that Kaitlyn admits she had sex with to the guys.

As it virtually always does the season preview ends with the bachelorette in tears, and we are left to wonder if her quest for love (and our many, many hours of television watching) will be wasted.  The final clip of the night shows Brady arriving at the still crying (Tanner should have brought more tissues) Britt’s hotel in his quest to see if they are bound for ForeverLove.  It’s not entirely clear if Brady’s attempt worked out or not, some sites are reporting that the two are currently dating, but all Britt could say during her appearance on Kimmel last night was that we will see Brady actually arriving at her hotel room next week.  That’s all I’ve got for this week.  I feel good about this season, I’m still excited about Kaitlyn as The Bachelorette, and even though I’m against Nick coming back, and think they should stop letting old contestants return to the show, I am excited to see what’s in store for us this season.
